Priceless treasures

I know this isn't the best photograph in the world, but it is all I could do for now. This is one of the items I received from my grandmother while I was there last month. This is the original drawing and frame that my grandmother made of the Sacred Heart in March of 1933. She would have been just twelve years old.

I also received these two very old magazines. The Life magazine is from 1963, and the Liberty magazine was from 1937. I thought they were both pretty cool finds. She kept that one magazine for almost seventy years, amazing.

....and I thought I was a packrat.

I don't think anybody in my families can see the value in these special gifts from my grandmother. I have a purse and hat that I saved from my father throwing it into the garbage. It is in perfect condition, both are made of some kind of feather. I kept them, not that I would ever use them, but I imagine that they are from when my grandmother was much younger. To me I would much rather have those types of things, than anything of real monetary value. Like I will get a handcarved table. It was one of my grandparents first pieces of furniture. I love it just because of that. I cherish things with sentimental value.

The drawing is great and so are magazines. It's nice that you appreciate those things and that your family treasures are being cared for.

Hint: if you must take a flash photo, don't take the shot directly face on. Stand at an agle and then shoot. Otherwise, don't use flash, turn up the ambient lighting and take it. :-)

rgmb-thanks for the hint. I'll try to remember that next time.

Here's a site that explains how to photograph your artwork. Check it out.

rgmb-I fixed the picture, flash is gone, but now I have the edge of my china cabinet in the way. At least now you can see the picture a bit clearer. I hate to take it out of its original frame, the frame is sealed in the back. So this is how it stays.

Family treasures an excellent to have and pass on. It's something all too easy to lose.

I've had the same experience with taking pictures of pictures. It's always a challenge to do it in a way that doesn't end up with a lot of glare. We used to take pictures of our ultrasounds, and it took many tries to get one without being mostly glare.
